Dia 11: El Camino de Santiago de Compostela

Este mañana, todo el grupo de estudiantes fue al colegio para tomar un autobús al Camino de Santiago de Compostela. Fue un viaje muy largo en el autobús, entonces los estudiantes tocaron música para nosotros. Nosotros escuchamos la música y las chicas y yo jugamos con nuestro cabello. Muchas personas durmieron por lo cual Nick y Charlie se aprobecharon para dibujar en los cuerpos de estas personas. Ellos dibujaron mucho en la pierna de Abby, y un poco en los cuerpos de Michelle y Lauren. Después del viaje en autobús, nosotros comimos el almuerzo encima de una montaña, y después tuvimos treinta minutos libresa para explorar el pueblo pequeño de peregrinos. Muchas personas compraron regalos para su familia.  Luego tomamos el autobús otra vez a otro lugar y empezamos nuestro camino desde O Cebreiro una ruta francesa en el Camino de Santiago. Por 4-5 horas, nosotros caminamos con dos o tres paradas para descansar. Caminamos por muchas granjas y vimos a muchos animales, como cerdos, vacas, y gallinas.  Al final del día nos fuimos a comer, jugar juegos, y dormirnos en un Alburgue de peregrinos! Fue un día muy divertido y gracioso para todos!

This morning, the whole group of students went to school to take a bus to El Camino de Santiago. It was a really long trip on the bus, so the students had music for us. We listened to music and the girls played with each others hair during the ride. A lot of people fell asleep that is how Nick and Charlie drew all over the bodies of people who were sleeping. They drew a lot on Abby’s leg, and a little bit on the bodies of Michelle and Lauren. After the trip on the bus, we ate on top of a mountain, and after that we got half an hour of free time in the small town filled with pilgrims. A lot of people bought gifts for family members. Then we took the bus again to O Cebreiro which is a tiny village on the route pilgrimage route that commences in France and we began our hike to Santiago de Compostela. For about 4-5 hours, we walked with two or three stops to rest. We walked through a lot of farms and saw lots of animals such as pigs, cows, and chicken. At the end of the day we settled in to the hostel for pilgrims where we ate, played games and went to sleep. Today was both fun and funny for all!

Dia 10: CPI Toural

Este dia fue el septimo dia con mi familia espanola. Nosotros hicimos muchas cosas este dia. Fue el cumpleanos de mi hermano Antonio. Por eso yo lo celebre con las otras personas en el grupo. Primero necesite ir a la escuela para encontrar el grupo. Nosotros fuimos a otro colegio -CPI Toural. Comimos churros con chocolate. Estuvo muy bien.  Entonces nosotros fuimos a las salinas. Las salinas son muy bonitas. Nosotros caminamos poe mucho tiempo pero Maestra se quedo en el colegio revisando nuestros diarios. Entonces jugue futbol. Jugue con otras personas del colegio. El deporte de futbol es muy popular en Espana. Es el mejor deporte para jugar en Espana pero los chicos en Espana. Luego fui a la casa de Antonio. El es mi chico en el intercambio. Es muy comico y me gusta mi nueva familia. El tiene un apartamento en la ciudad y su es muy diferente a mi vida en New Jersey. Nosotros caminamos a la casa porque su escuela esta muy cerca de su casa.  Cuando estaba en la casa Antonio y yo comimos. Las comidas son muy diferentes en Espana que en los Estados Unidos. Primero yo comi pulpo. Fue muy extrano. Tambien yo comi otras comidas pero no se que comidas fueron. Despues del almuerzo yo jugue FIFA. FIFA es un videojuego para Playstation. Es el mas popular en Espana. Es un videojuego de futbol. Yo gane. Para el cumpleanos de Antonio muchas personas fueron a la casa de Antonio. Hubo una fiesta. Nosotros comimos pastel. El pastel en Espana es igual en los Estados Unidos. Las personas en Espana comen mucha comida. Tambien ellos caminan mucho porque viven en la ciudad. Mi familia tiene un coche pero no lo usan mucho porque todas las cosas estan cerca de su casa. Luego nosotros fuimos a Vigo. Vigo es una ciudad cercana por eso usamos el tren. El tren es similar al tren en los Estados Unidos. Nosotros caminamos mucho en la ciudad. Es similar a la ciudad de Nueva York pero es mas tranquila. Nosotros fuimos a un bolera. En la bolera hay futbolin. Futbolin es muy popular y los espanoles son muy buenos en este juego. Yo jugue con mi amigo de Espana Fernando. Nosotros ganamos muchos partidos. Nosotros jugamos a los bolos. Es lo mismo en los Estados Unidos. Yo gane un partido. Tambien hable con los chicos de Espana. Es dificil hablar espanol pero no es muy dificil entenderlo. El problema es que los chicos hablan muy rapido. En Newark Academy normalmente hablamos mas despacio. Despues caminamos mas por la ciudad de Vigo. Vigo es muy bonita. Me gusta la ciudad. Nosotros fuimos a una creperia para comer. Los crepes en Espana son buenisimos. Yo comi un crepe con chocolate y helado. Estaba muy rica. Entonces Antonio y yo nos fuimos a su casa. Fue una experiencia muy buena. Al poco ratoconimos la cena. Comi a las once de la noche. Las personas comen muy tarde por la noche. No tenia hambre por eso solo comi yogur. Entonces me fui a mi cuarto para dormir.

This day was the sixth day with the family. We did many things this day. It was my kid Antonio´s birthday. therefore, I celebrated with other people in the group. First I had to go to school to meet the rest of the group. We went to another school -CPI Toural. We ate churros with chocolate. Then we went to the salt flats. The salt flats were very pretty. We walked for a long time however Maestra stayed behind to correct our journals. Then I played soccer. I played with other people from the school. The sport of soccer is the most popular sport in Spain. It is the best sports to play. After I went to Antonio´s house with him. Antonio is my kid on the exchange. He is very funny and I like his family. He has an apartment in the city and the life is very different then my life in the USA. We walked home because the school is very close. When I was at his house Antonio and I ate. The food es very different in Spain than in the in the United States. First I ate octopus. It was strange. Also I ate other food but I don't know what the food was. After lunch I played FIFA. FIFA is a video game for the Playstation. It is the most popular in Spain. It is a video game of soccer. I won. For Antonio´s birthday a lot of people went to his house. Its was a party. We ate cake. The cake in Spain is the same as in the United States. The people in Spain eat a lot. They also walk a lot because they live in the city. My family has a car but they don´t use it a lot because all of the things are close to their house. Next we went to Vigo. Vigo is a nearby city so we took a train. The train is the same as in the United States. We walked a lot in the city. Vigo is similar to New York but it is calmer. We went to a bowling alley. In the bowling alley there was foosball. Foosball is very popular and Spaniards are really good. I played with my friend Fernando. We won a lot of games. Also we bowled. It is the same in the USA. I talked with the kids of Spain. It is hard to speak in Spanish but its is not as hard to understand them. The problem is that the people talk really fast. In Newark Academy we speak slower. Afterward we walked around the city of Vigo. Vigo is very pretty. We went to a crepe restaurant. The crepes in Spain are very good. I had a crepe with chocolate and ice cream. It was delicious. Then we went to Antonio's house. It was a good experience. A little later we ate diner. We ate at eleven at night. Spaniards eat really late at the night. I wasn't hungry so I only had yogurt. Then I went to my room to sleep.

Dia 9: A la escuela!

Hoy fuimos a la escuela. Vimos la escuela de los chicos de España -CPI Manuel Padin Tuiteiro. La escuela era muy grande pero no hay muchas estudiantes allá. Primero, jugamos un partido de fútbol delante de la escuela. El partido fue Españoles contra personas de los Estados Unidos. Fue un partido bueno pero ellos marcaron un punto cuando el partido empezó.  Su mejor jugador fue un chico en una camiseta de Francia y no forma parte de nuestro intercambio. Entonces, los chicos de España nos mostraron la escuela. Escuchamos algunas estudiantes tocar canciones. Vimos el cuarto de arte, también. Después, fuimos a la clase de biología. La clase fue mucho más rápida y corta que nuestra clase de biología. Luego, tomamos el autobús al castillo de Soutomaior. Caminamos al castillo y encontramos dos personas del gobierno. Hablamos y caminamos en el castillo. Fue una iglesia pequeña en el primero piso. En el segundo piso, había artefactos y un model del castillo. El model mostraba el castillo en el pasado. Desde la ventana, pude ver mucho de la ciudad de Arcade. Saqué muchas fotos. Entonces, vimos un grupo de personas de Galicia (algunas de nuestro grupo). Ellos tocaron las baterías, gaitas y acordeones. Tocaron canciones típicas de Galicia. El director solo podía hablar Gallego. Gallego es la lengua de esta parte de España. Luego, fuimos a una edificio cerca del castillo y comimos croquetas y otros tipos de tapas. Entonces, fuimos a la escuela. Fuimos a nuestras casas y, luego, caminamos a la playa. La playa era la costa del rio. El agua estaba muy fria pero nosotros nadamos un poco. Todos de nosotros compramos helado de un edificio cerca de la playa. Oscar y Jesus trajeron barcos para usar. Una persona condujo un barco con un motor a la playa. Muchas personas condujeron los barcos. Oscar y yo conducimos una canoa. La mejor cosa fue que la persona con el barco trajo kayaks. Él puso los kayaks delante del barco y los montamos. Fue muy gracioso. La unica vez que una persona se cayó, fue cuando Charlie y Oscar trataron montar el mismo kayak. Finalmente, fuimos a nuestras casas para descansar. Hicimos mucho hoy y no puedo esperar para mañana.

Today, we went to school. We saw the school of the Spanish kids -CPI Manuel Padin Tuiteiro. The school was very large, but there were not many kids. First, we played a game of soccer. The game was Spanish kids versus Americans. It was a good game, but they scored a goal when the game began.  Their best player was a kid who wore a blue France soccer jersey and wasn’t even part of the immersion program. Then, the Spanish kids showed us their school. In the music room, we listened to some of the younger students play songs with their recorders and various percussion instruments. We also saw the art room. After this, we went to their biology class. The class was very quick and went much faster than ours.  Later, we rode the bus to Soutomaior Castle. We walked up to the castle and met with two people from the government. We, then, entered the central building of the castle. There was a small church on the first floor (the kind you see specifically for marrying people). On the second floor there were various artifacts and a model of the castle. The model showed how the castle looked in the past. Outside the windows of the second floor, I could see most of the city of Arcade. I took many pictures of this spectacular view.  Next, we watched a group of people from Galicia. They played typical Galician songs. The leader of the group, actually, could only speak Galician, which is the main language of this part of Spain. Then, we went to a building next to the castle and ate croquettes, muscles, and other typical tapas. After this we went back to our houses and, later, to the beach. The beach was actually the shore of the river that cut through the city of Arcade. The water was cold, but we swam anyway. We, also, all bought ice-cream from a store next to the beach. Oscar and Jesus brought boats to the beach for us to use. Many people rode them. Oscar and I, in particular, used a canoe. El best part, however, was that a guy drove his motorboat to the beach. The guy also brought kayaks, which he towed from the back of his boat and, which, we rode. It was very fun and the only time that anyone fell in was when Charlie and Oscar tried to ride the same kayak. Finally, we went back to our homes to rest. We did a lot today and I can’t wait for tomorrow.

Día 8: Las Bateas de Mejillones & Grove

Antes de olvidarme, pienso que es muy cómico que ahora tengo que pensar sobre mis palabras en inglés. Por eso hoy fue un día ajetreado. Me levanté a las 8 y comí un plátano y te caliente. Mi padre me condujó al colegio para la excursión. Luego tomamos un autobús para llegar al Grove. Habían barcos y olía como pescados. Fuimos en un barco para ver personas en el mar que cultivaban los mejillones y las ostras. Bebimos "Sunny Naranja" y comimos. Si querías podías darle comida a los pájaros. Tengo miedo de las gaviotas eso no lo hice. Me senté con Lauren, Dani (el chico español), y Raul. Bailamos a la música que pusieron y entonces desembarcamos. Fuimos al autobús para ir a la playa de San Vicente. Tuvimos que subir a las piedras para ver la vista tan preciosa. Luego, fuimos al autobús por otro rato. A continuación fuimos a la playa (a mi me gusta baila). Yo ya comí en el autobús pero algunos estudiantes comieron en las mesas de la playa que eran de granito. Finalmente llegamos al mar. Puse mi toalla en la arena y empancé a tomar el sol. Nadé para sacarme la arena. Luego fuimos a casa. Hable con Clara y me duche. Me puse mi ropa para ir al restaurante. Vimos el partido de fútbol Euro 2012 de España contra Croacia. España ganó! Después del partido, nos fuimos a casa para dormir.

Before I forget, I thought it was funny that now I have to think about my English words. So today was a full day. I woke up at 8 and ate a banana y hot tea. My father drove me to school for the excursion. Later we took a bus to arrive to the O Grove. There were ships and it smelled like fish. We drank Sunny Orange and ate. If you wanted you could give food to the birds. I was scared of the birds so I did not do it. I sat with Lauren, Dani (the Spanish boy), and Raul. We danced with the loud music and then we left. We went to the bus to go to the San Vincent beach. We had to climb up the rocks to see the precious view. Later we went to the bus another time. A little later we are went to the beach. I already ate on the bus but some students ate on the tables by the beach that were of granite. Finally we arrived to the sea. I put my towel on the sand and began to tan. I swam to get rid of the sand. Later I arrived at home. I talked with Clara and I showered. I put on clothes to go to the restaurant. We watched the European 2012 Spain verses Croacia. Spain won! After the game we went home to sleep.

Dia 7: En Familia: Ourense!

Hoy, con María y su familia, fuimos a la provincia de Coruña. Visitamos la casa de sus primos y fuimos a El Castillo de San Antón. Allí, exploramos los cuartos. Vi obras de arte de la época romana. Fue increible, pero llovió todo el día. Después de explorar el castillo, caminamos a La Torre de Hercules. La Torre tiene casi 2,000 años y aun se usa hoy en día!  Desafortunadamente, no pudimos subir a la Torre. Aun así, fue muy interesante. En la casa de sus primos, María, su hermano Aaron, y yo jugamos a las cartas. Aunque nosotros aprendimos los juegos, no me di cuenta que en España no usan los ochos, nueves, ni dieces. Por eso, yo perdí muchas veces. Cuando regresamos a la casa de María, toda la familia jugó Just Dance y Grand Slam Tenis en el Wii. Al fin, comimos la cena.

Today, with Maria and her family, we went to the province of Coruna.  We visited her cousins' house and went to the Castle of Saint Anthony.  There, we explored the rooms.  I saw works of art from the Roman era.  It was incredible, but it rained all day.  After exploring the castle, we walked to the Tower of Hercules.  The Tower is almost 2000 years old, and is used even today!  Unfortunately, we couldn't go up in the tower.  Still, it was very interesting.  In her cousins' house, Maria, her brother Aaron, and I played cards.  Even though we learned the games, I didn´t remember that in Spain they don´t use eights, nines, or tens.  Because of this, I lost a lot.  When we went back to Maria´s house, the whole family played ¨Just Dance¨ and ¨Grand Slam Tennis¨ on Wii.  Finally, we ate dinner.

Dia 7: En Familia: Campeones de Baloncesto!

Hoy es el 17 de Junio de 2012 y son las 10:41 de la noche.  Hoy, no hice muchas cosas porque hoy fue domingo y en España la gente descansa los domingos.  Primero, nos levantamos mas tarde que los otros días y a mi me gusto mucho.  Despues, nosotros desayunamos galletas con leche caliente. Luego, nosotros jugamos el Call of Duty Black Ops.  Este juego es como la guerra entre Vietnam y los Estados Unidos.  El juego es muy divertido jugar!   A poco rato, yo fui con Eric y Antonio para jugar en el torneo de baloncesto en Ourense y Adri fue a hacer el piragüismo.  Hoy, fue los finales del torneo de baloncesto. Yo pensé que sería chulo si fuesemos los campeones.  Cuando llegamos al campo de baloncesto, pensé que nosotros ibamos a jugar afuera, pero no, nosotros jugamos en un gimnasio.  En el primero partido, los semi-finales, Nick, Eric, y yo jugamos contra un equipo de España. Ellos eran jóvenes y les ganamos.  Después, nosotros jugamos contra el equipo de Oscar, Antonio, y Jesus.  Oscar y su equipo son buenos jugadores del baloncesto y por eso, fue difícil ganarles, pero logramos ganar.  Nosotros quedamos como los campeones del torneo. Ganamos una tarjeta de 200 euros a una tienda oficial de la NBA en Ourense y varios premios de sorteo.   Despues, nosotros fuimos en el coche a casa. La mamá de Antonio nos compró bocadillos para todos los jugadores.  Comí un bocadillo de pechuga de pollo y queso y me gustó mucho.  También en el coche, nosotros jugamos un juego Americano que se llama puñetazo.  Antonio le gustó.  Por la noche, todos miramos el partido de Portugal contra Holanda del Euro 2012.   Portugal ganó.  Luego, yo llegué a la casa de Adri para cenar y dormir.

Today is 17 June, 2012, and it is 10:41pm.  Today, I didn´t do a lot because today was Sunday, and in Spain people rest on Sundays.  First, we woke up later than other days, and I liked that a lot.  Then, we ate cookies with warm milk for breakfast.  Later, we played Call of Duty Black Ops.  It´s a videogame about the war between Vietnam and the United States.  The game is really fun to play! After a bit, I went with Eric and Antonio to finish the basketball tournament in Ourense, and Adri went to do crew.  The finals for the basketball tournament were today.  I thought it would be cool if we were the champions.  When we got to the basketball court, I thought that we were going to play outside, but no, we played in a gym.  In the first game, the semi-finals, Nick, Eric, and I played against a Spanish team.  They were young and we beat them.  Then, we played against Oscar, Antonio, and Jesus´s team.  Oscar and his team were good basketball players and because of this, it was difficult to beat them, but we were able to win.  We were the champions of the tournament.  We won a gift card for 200 euros to an official NBA store in Ourense, as well as various other prizes. Afterwards, we went home by car.  Antionio´s mother bought sandwiches for all of the players.  I ate a chicken and cheese sandwich, and I liked it a lot.  In the car, we also played an American game called "Punch."  Antonio liked it.  That night, we all watched the soccer game between Portugal and Holland in the EuroCup 2012.  Portugal won.  Then, I went back to Adri´s house to eat dinner and to go to bed.
