Dia 19: Despedida de Galicia

Hoy es nuestro ultimo día en Arcade.  Me levanté alrededor de las once y media, pero Maria todavía estaba durmiendo.  Yo comencé a empacar mi ropa desde mi armario a mi maleta.  Después de treinta minutos de empacar, Maria se despertó y estaba muy sorprendida ver que yo estaba despierta. Cuando ella vio que yo estaba empacando, ella parecía muy triste.  Ella se fue a duchar y cuando ella regresó, yo tenía mucho estrés, porque mi ropa no podía cabía en mi maleta.  Maria se rió y empezó a poner toda mi ropa afuera de la maleta.  Me dijo que hay una manera y una estrategia para empacar.  Ella doblo unas camisetas hasta eran muy pequeñas y las puso en la maleta.  Yo la copie y después de veinte minutos, acabamos de empacar mis cosas. Nosotras desayunamos mientras empacamos galletas, BiFrutas, y leche caliente con Nesquick.  Luego, me fui a ducharme.  Me vestí, y finalmente nosotras hablábamos sobre muchas cosas: el viaje, nuestras emociones sobre las otras personas del intercambio, mi español, su ingles, y sobre lo que ella espera de su viaje a los Estados Unidos.  Entonces, la madre de Maria nos hizo mi almuerzo favorito de todo el viaje: patatas fritas con huevos.  ¡Mi plato quedo completamente limpio!  Después de salir de casa, Maria y su madre mi dieron un collar de Galicia y un monedero de "Lola y Bimba," una tienda de las "Pijas de Pontevedra.". El collar aparentemente es para la buena suerte y contra las personas malas. Entonces, nosotras fuimos a la playa de Puente para despedirnos de todos nuestros amigos quienes no eran parte del intercambio: Isaac, Josué, Efraim, Miri R, Sara, Adrián, y algunos otros.  Después, fuimos al bar por ultima vez.  Al final, fuimos a casa, cogí mis maletas, y fuimos a la estación de tren.  Yo quería llorar, pero me sentí mejor cuando me di cuenta que voy a verles en septiembre.  Di un abrazo a todos, y múltiples abrazos a Maria y Raquel.  Voy a echarlo de menos a Arcade mucho, y no puedo esperar a ver mis nuevos amigos de Espana en los EEUU.

Today is the final day in Arcade.  I got up at about 11:30, but Maria was still sleeping.  I began to pack my clothes from the closet into my suitcase.  After about thirty minutes of packing, Maria got up and was very surprised to see that I was awake. When she saw that I was packing, she looked really sad.  She went to shower, and when she came back, I was very stressed because my clothes didn't fit in my bag.  Maria laughed at me and began to take all my clothes out of the suitcase.  She told me that there is a way and a strategy to packing.  She folded some of my shirts so they were very small and out them in the suitcase.  I copied her, and after twenty minutes, we were done. While we packed, we ate a breakfast of cookies, BiFrutas, and warm milk with Nesquick.  Later, I went to shower.  I got dressed, and finally, we talked about a lot of things: the trip, our feelings about the other people on the exchange, my Spanish, her English, and about her expectations for her trip to the United States.  Then, Maria's mother made my favorite lunch of the entire trip: fried potatoes with eggs.  By the end of the meal, my plate was clean!  Afterwords, we left the house and Maria and her mother gave me a necklace from Galicia and a wallet from Lohla y Bambina, a store in the Picos de Pontevedra.  The necklace was supposed to be for good luck and against bad people. Then we went to the Puente beach where we said goodbye to all of our friends who were not part of the exchange: Isaac, Josué, Ephraim, Miri R, Sara, Adrián, and some others.  Afterwords we went to the bar for the last time.  Finally, we went to the house to collect my bags and we went to the train station.  I wanted to cry but felt better when I remembered that I'm going to see them in September.  I gave everyone a hug, and a lot of hugs to Maria and Raquel, the people to whom I felt closest.  I'm going to miss Arcade a lot, and I can't wait to see my new friends from Spain in the USA.

Dia 17: Cena de Despedida & Semifinales de La Eurocopa 2012

Hoy fue una día muy ajetreado y hizo mucho calor! Me dormí hasta las diez en punto. Cuando me levante, hizo mas calor que ayer! Me vestí en pantalones cortos y una camiseta. Miri y yo desayunamos Especial K y leche. Como siempre, Miri bebió su leche caliente, y yo bebí mi leche fría. Después nuestra desayuno, nosotras miramos un poco de una telenovela en televisión. Este programa era muy dramática! Luego, todos los estudiantes fueron a la escuela para recibir sus notas. Es diferente que Los Estados Unidos, porque nosotros recibimos nuestras notas en la computadora en el intranet y el correo electrónico de Newark Academy. Para los estudiantes de CPI Truiteiro, ellos van al instituto y la profe de cada clase le da sus notas. Muchos de los estudiantes del intercambio estaban muy felices con sus notas! Para el almuerzo, Miri y yo regresamos a su casa y comimos con su padre y su abuela. Su padre cocino carne con ensalada, patatas y huevos. Me gustaba este plato. Nosotros bebimos Bi Fruta, una bebida que no existe en los Estados Unidos, pero es muy popular en España! Bi Fruta es una mezcla de leche y zumo, y es muy deliciosa. Después del almuerzo, nosotras teníamos mucho calor y estábamos cansadas, por eso tomamos una siesta en el dormitorio de Miri con un ventilador. Cuando nosotras nos levantamos, nos vestimos en bañadores, camisetas y pantalones cortos. Maestra siempre nos da crema de protección para no quemarnos por eso, yo me puse crema del sol en mi cara. Al poco rato, la madre de Miri nos condujo a la casa de una amiga de Miri. La chica se llama Antia. Ella tiene una piscina en su casa y habían muchas personas en su casa. Nosotros jugamos vóleibol en la piscina, y después, jugamos futbol. Fue muy divertido! Por la noche, Miri y yo regresamos a casa. Nosotras nos vestimos en vestidos muy chulos y fuimos a un restaurante con el resto del grupo del intercambio. Durante la cena, nosotros vimos el partido de las semifinales de la Eurocopa 2012 entre España y Portugal. El partido fue muy emocionante. En la prorroga ni equipo marco, por eso el partido fue a penaltis. Durante los 13 minutos de penaltis Maestra estaba muy nerviosa. El penalti de Fabregas le dio la victoria a la Roja. España ganó! Todos los estudiantes, las profes, y las familias en el restaurante aplaudieron. Fue un día buenísimo!

Today was a very busy and hot day. I slept until 10am. When I got up it was hotter then yesterday. I put on shorts and a t-shirt. Miri and I had Special K and milk for breakfast. As always, Miri drank hot milk and I had cold milk. After breakfast, we watched a soap opera on TV. The show was very dramatic! Then all of the students went to school to pick up their grades. This is different in the USA because we receive our grades via the intranet or email at Newark Academy. The students at CPI Truiteiro go to their school and each of their teachers gives them their final grade for the year. Many of the students on the Exchange were very happy with their grades. At lunch time, Miri and I returned home and ate with her dad and grandmother. Her dad made steak, salad, French fries, and eggs. I liked this dish. We drank BiFruta, a drink that does not exist in the USA; however, it is very popular in the Spain! BiFruta is a mix of milk and juice –it is delicious! After lunch, Miri and I were very warm and tired, so we went home to take a nap in Miri's room with the air conditioner.  When we woke up, we put on bathing suits, t-shirts, and shrots.  Maestra always gives us sunscreen so we don't get sunburned, so I put sunscreen on my face.  After a bit, Miri's mom drove us to Miri' friend's house.  Her name is Antia.  She has a pool in her house and there were a lot of people in the house.  We played volleyball in the pool, and afterwards, we played soccer.  It was a lot of fun! At night, we returned home. We dressed up for our farewell dinner and meet up with all the exchange students at the restaurant. During dinner, we watched the semifinals match of the Eurocopa 2012 between Spain and Portugal. The match was very emotional. The match was still a tie even after the overtime so the game went to penalty kicks. During the 13 minutes of penalty kicks Maestra was a nervous wreck. Fabregas penalty kick gave Spain the victory. Spain won! All the students, teachers, and families were cheering. It was a great day!

Dia 16: Baiona

Hoy fue última excursión del intercambio. María y yo nos despertamos a las ocho y media esta mañana. A las nueve menos cuarto nosotras nos levantamos. Cuando yo me levanté, fui a prepararme para la excursión. Hoy hizo mucho calor aquí 35 grados, y entonces me vestí con una camiseta y pantalones cortos. A las nueve en punto, Leandro (el hermano de María), María, y yo fuimos a comer el desayuno. Como siempre, nosotros desayunamos leche y galletas.  Al poco rato, nosotros caminamos al colegio de María para reunirnos con todo el grupo. Cuando todos estábamos listos, nosotros tomamos el autobús a Baiona. El pueblo de Baiona es un pueblo antiguo de playa, nosotros vimos muchas cosas interesantes. Primero, cuando llegamos, dimos un paseo.  En el paseo, nosotros caminamos alrededor del Castillo de Gondomar que esta en una montaña pequeña rodeada por el mar. Fue fantástica!!! Las montañas y el mar son muy bonitas aquí. Nosotros visitamos la carabela la Pinta. La Pinta es un replica del barco que uso Cristóbal Colón para viajar y regresar de América en 1492-1493. También había una placa del viaje que la Pinta hizo entre Baiona y New Jersey en 1992 para celebrar los 500 años del Descubrimiento de las Américas.  Después, visitamos la Virgen de la Roca. La estatua es muy grande como la Estatua de la Libertad, y muy impresionante. Era muy alta y cuando nosotros subimos al mirador de la estatua, vimos el mar y los pueblos cerca de Baiona. Fue un día perfecta para este viaje! Después de la Virgen de Roca, María y yo llegamos al colegio, y caminamos a casa para almuerzo. Fue muy rico, me gusta la comida en España mucho!  Luego, María y yo fuimos a la playa, porque hacia mucho calor. El mar fue muy bueno porque el agua estaba frio. A las diez en punto, regresamos a casa para cenar. Fue un día muy ajetreado y ahora estoy muy cansada! Adiós!

Today is the last excursion of the immersion. Maria and I woke up at eight thirty this morning. At eight forty, we got out of bed. When I got up, I prepared for the trip. Today was very hot here 95 degrees, so I got dressed with a t-shirt and shorts. At nine o’clock, Leandro, Maria, and I went to eat breakfast. Like always, we had chocolate milk and cookies for breakfast.  A little later, we walked to Maria’s school to meet up with the rest of the group. When everyone was ready, we took the bus to Baiona. Baiona is a historical sea side town, we saw many interesting things. When we first arrived, we went for a walk . On the walk, we walked around the Castel of Gondomar which is on a small mountain surrounded by the sea. It was fantastic! ! ! The mountains and the ocean are very pretty here. Then we visited the ship known as La Pinta. The Pinta is an exact replica of the ship that Christopher Columbus used to navigate to and return from the Americas in 1492-1493. There was also a plaque of the trip that La Pinta made between Baiona and New Jersey in 1992 in celebration of the 500 anniversary of the Discovery of the Americas. After, we visited the Virgin of the Rock. The statue is huge like the Statue of Liberty, and very impressive. It is very tall, and from the statue we could see the ocean and many little coastal towns around. It was a perfect day for the trip! Afterwards, we returned to school and then walked back to Maria's house for lunch. It was delicious; I like the food in Spain a lot! Later, Maria and I went to the beach, because it was so hot outside. The ocean was great, because it cooled us off. At ten o’clock we returned to her house for dinner. It was a busy day and now I am very tired!

Dia 14-15: En Familia: Las Vacaciones Escolares

Por la mañana yo me levanté muy tarde porque nosotros nos acostamos muy tarde después del Festival de San Juan. Cuando nosotros nos levantamos yo comí un poco de comida, 2 bananas y 3 galletas. Después nosotros fuimos a un festival con muchos adultos y muchas familias. Había mucha comida en mesas de granito rodeadas de los árboles. Era muy diferente a un picnic en los Estados Unidos. Yo comí mucha comida de mejillones, ensalada de macarrones, papas fritas, y otras comidas también. Yo bebí mucha agua y sólo agua porque tenía sed. Había mucho vino para los adultos. Había mucha música también de gaitas y otros instrumentos como las baterías de metal y otras cosas.  Yo jugué fútbol con los amigos de la familia de Dani, el padre de Dani, y su hermano también. Nosotros ganamos. Después nosotros volvimos a la casa de Dani por un poco de tiempo. Luego nosotros fuimos a la playa. En la playa nos encontramos con muchas chicas del intercambio. Yo estaba aburrida porque las otras chicas no querían jugar futbol conmigo. Pero por fin Eric y Antonio llegaron a la playa. Eric y yo jugamos futbol. Como había muchos chicos que querían jugar fútbol nosotros jugamos Americanos contra Españoles. Ellos tuvieron jugadores de diez y siete anos por eso tenian una ventaja enorme. No se quien gano. Pero al final el partido fue muy igualado. Después Dani y yo volvimos a la casa de Dani para la cena y para dormir.   Hoy empezaron las vacaciones para los estudiantes españoles por eso este lunes ya no tuvimos que ir al colegio. Por la mañana yo fui a jugar futbol con Eric, Antonio, y los otros españoles. Por la tarde, nosotros nos fuimos a la playa. Fue un día típico de vacaciones.

In the morning I woke up very late because went to sleep very late after the festival of San Juan. I ate a little bit for breakfast 2 bananas and 3 cookies. After we went to festival that had a lot of adults, older folks, and families. There were granite tables surrounded by trees. It was very different then a typical American pic-nic. I ate a lot of food like muscles, macaroni salad, French fries and many other things. I drank a lot of water and only water because I was very thirsty. There was a lot of bagpipe music and drums made of metals and other things. I played soccer with Dani’s family friends, his father, and his brother. We won. After we returned to Dani’s house for a little bit of time. Then we went to the Beach where we meet up with a lot of the girls from the exchange. I was so bored because the other girls did not want to play soccer. Eventually Eric and Antonio arrived. Eric and I played soccer. Then many other people wanted to play. We so we placed Americans versus Spaniards. They had players who were 17 years old so they had a huge advantage over us. I don’t know who won but the game was close. After that we returned to Dani’s house for dinner and to go to sleep.  Summer vacation started today for the Spanish students that is why this Monday we no Langer had to go to school. In the morning I played soccer with Eric and Antono and other Spaniards. In the afternoon we went to the beach. It was a typical vacation day with our host siblings and familias.

Dia 13: En Familia: Portugal y San Juan

Hoy, yo fui a Portugal con mi familia española y la familia de Eric Liao también. Pero primero, fuimos a disfrutrar de unas visitas panoramicas del mar. Nosotros sacamos muchas fotos con un fondo bonito. Fuimos en el coche a otros lugares antes de Portugal. En el coche, mi madre española me habló sobre las montañas y los faros. Entonces, nosotros fuimos a otro desfile que es un pueblo del mar.  Habian muchos barcos donde se recogen muchos tipos de pescados, marisco, y mucho más. Después, nosotros fuimos a un lugar donde tu puedes ver un rió que separa Portugal y España. Nosotros vimos cuando aun estabamos en España. Fue muy bonito. Nosotros sacamos fotos en un pueblo con los Castros de Santa Tecla. Hay muchas casas de los Celtas de 500 BC. Las ruinas son increibles. Para el almuerzo, nosotros fuimos a un restaurante en Portugal. Yo pedí un bistec con un huevo, queso, patatas frítas, y el arroz blanco. Carmen y Eric comieron lo mismo que yo. Yo bebi una Coca Cola. Fue muy delicioso. Tambien, yo probé el almuerzo de mi madre española, ella comió arroz con pescado, langosta, y otros tipos de marisco. Además, nosotros fuimos a unos mercados donde habían muchas cosas. Había mucha ropa, vestidos para mujeres, trajes para hombres, y zapatos de diferentes colores para todos.Cuando terminamos de comprar nosotros fuimos a un café para comprar helado. Por la noche, nosotros celebramos el Festival de San Juan con todo el grupo y otras personas del pueblo. Hubo una grande hogueira (fuego) que quemo por muchas horas. Cuando era tarde, ellos hicieron un fuego pequeno. Por eso, las personas pudiera saltarlo. Una persona tiene que saltar 3 veces por encima de la hogueira para obtener buena suerte. También, hubo muchos fuegos artificiales. Nosotros celebramos hasta las tres de la mañana. Fue un día muy largo pero fue muy divertido.

Today, I went to Portugal with my Spanish family and also with Eric Liao's family. But first, we stopped at for a panoramic view of the sea. We took many photos with the beautiful background. We went in the car to a few other places before heading to Portugal. In the car, my Spanish mom told me about the montains and light houses around the area. Then, we went to another stop. There were a lot boats where they collect a large variety types a fish, seafood, and much more. After, we went to a place where you can see a river that separates Portugal and Spain. We saw it when we were still in Spain. It was very pretty. We took a lot of photos in a town with the Forts of Santa Tecla. There were many forts that date back to the Celtics rule in Galicia in 500 BC. The ruins were incredible. For lunch, we went to a restaurant in Portugal. I ordered a steak with eggs, cheese, and french fries with white rice. Carmen and Eric ate the same thing as me. I drank a Coca Cola. It was very delicious. Also, I tried the lunch of my Spanih mother, she ate rice with fish, lobster, and other types of seafood. Additionally, we went to a Farmers Market where there were many things. There were many stands containing many different things. Some had a lot of clothes for children, dresses for women, suits for men, and shoes in many colors for everyone. When we finished shopping, we went to a cafe to buy ice cream. At night, we celebrated the Festival of San Juan with the whole group and other people around the town. There was a giant fire that bured for hours. When it was late, they made a small fire. Finally, people could jump over it. A person has to jump over it three times in order to get good luck. Also, there were many fireworks going off throughout the night. We celebrated until three in the morning. It was a very long day but it was a lot of fun.

Dia 12: Santiago de Compostela

Hoy nosotros terminamos el Camino de Santiago. Todos los estudiantes nos levantamos a las ocho en punto y las profesoras antes para preparar nuestros bocadillos para el almuerzo. Desayunamos y salimos del albergue para terminar el Camino. Tomamaos leche caliente y tostadas con mantequilla y mermelada para desayunar. Yo puse Cola Cao en mi leche tambien. Cola Cao es similar a Nesquick. Luego fuimos en autobus a las afueras de Santiago de Compostela. No caminamos mucho porque Maestra llevaba sus famosos tacones. jaja ;-) Cuando llegamos cerca del catedral salimos del autobus y caminamos por 20 minutos. La catedral es el fin del Camino de Santiago. Tomamos un tour alrededor de la caterdral. Caminamos encima de las cubietras para ver la ciudad. Fue super guay!!! Al terminar tuvimos tiempo libre para almorzar. Algunas chicas y yo fuimos a un restaurante para beber y comer. Despues fuimos alugnas tiendas para comprar cosas. Todos nos reuinimos en las escaleras del catedral despues del tiempo libre. Fuimos en autobus por una hora para regresar a nuestras casas. Cuando llegue a mi casa mi familia y yo nos fuimos al Castillo de Soutomaior y una edificio encima de una montana. No se el nombre. Sacamos muchas fotos. Vi un jardin con muchos arboles de todo el mundo. Fue super guay. Despues regresamos a casa para vestirnos para la cena de fin de curso. Fuimos a Pontevedra para la cena. Algunas personas del intercambio no fueron porque ellos no estan en la misma clase. Comimos tortilla espanola, croquetas, carne, pescado, y mucho mas. El restaurante tenia mucha comida! Las personas en el colegio son muy gracisoas y la cena fue muy divertida. Luego todas las personas fuimos a una discoteca. Caminamos mucho para encontrar una discoteca/pub porque eramos muchas personas y no habia suficiente espacio en la discotecas. Por eso, todos bailamos en el pub! Habia mucha gente en el pub y hacia mucho calor! Pero me gusto mucho!! Me gusta Pontevedra por la noche. Todos se fueron a casa menos Paula, su amiga Ana y yo decidimos quedarnos un poco mas. Sacamos algunas fotos. Fuimos a otra discoteca con mucha gente. Volvimos juntas a casa a las tres y media de la manana. Fue un dia muy divertido! Quiero ir a Pontevdra o la discoteca en Arcade un otra vez!

Today we finished the walk to Santiago de Compostela (St. James). All the students got up at 8 o'clock and the teachers woke up earlier to prepare our lunch sandwhiches. We had breakfast and we left the hostel to finish the walk to Santiago/Saint James. We had warm milk and toast with butter and jam for breakfast. I put Cola Cao in my milk also. Cola Cao is similar to Nesquick. After we went to Santiago on the bus. We didn´t walk very much because Maestra was wearing her famous heels. haha ;-) When we got close to the cathedral we left the bus and walked for about 20 minutes. The cathedral is the end of the walk of Santiago. So technically we finished the whole walk even though we were on the bus for part of it. We walked on top of the roof of the cathedral in order to see the city. I was awesome! Afterwards we had some free time for lunch. Some girls and I went to a restaurant to get some drinks and snacks. After, we went to shops to buy some things. We all met back up on the stairs of the cathedral after our free time. We were on the bus for one hour on our way back to our host family´s houses. When I got to my house my family and I left to go to the Castillo de Soutomaoir and a building on top of a mountain. I don´t know the name. We took a lot of pictures. I saw a garden with a lot of trees from all over the world. It was really cool. Afterwards we returned to the house to get ready for the end of year dinner. We went to Potevedra for the dinner. Some people in the intercambio didn´t go because they aren´t in the same grade level. We had Spanish tortilla, croquets, meat, fish, and much more. The restaurant had a lot of food. The people in the school are really funny so the dinner was fun! Later on, all of us went to a discoteca together. We walked a lot to find a discoteca/pub because we had a lot of people and there wasn't enough room for our entire group in the discotecas. So,we all danced in the pub! There were a lot of people in the pub and it was really hot! But I liked it a lot! I like Pontevedra at night. Many of the others left but Paula, her friend Ana, and I walked around some more. We took some pictures. We also went to another discoteca that was packed. We went back to our house at around 3:30 am. It was a very fun day! I want to go the Pontevedra or the discoteca in Arcade another time!
